Dan Berry is a graphic artist, creative producer and educator who struggles to find a succinct singular job title to describe his career thus far. He is based in Shrewsbury, UK where he lives with his family and two cats.
Alongside independently publishing his own comics, Dan works in collaboration with the author David Gaffney, producing the graphic novels The Three Rooms in Valerie’s Head, Rivers and an as-yet unannounced third book.
His interview podcast, “Make It Then Tell Everybody”, ran from 2012 to 2023, getting deep into the minds and methodologies of over two hundred and fifty other artists at various stages of their careers. The archive is still available online wherever you find podcasts.
Dan designed and manufactures the Blade Pen, a unique drawing tool that has undergone many design iterations.
Between 2008 and 2019, Dan held the reins for the illustration, comics, and children’s books degree courses at the School of Creative Arts, Wrexham Glyndwr University, teaching, designing curriculum and participating in school management.
He occasionally teaches at The Animation Workshop in Viborg, Denmark and sometimes offers 1-1 mentoring, editorial input or creative workshops.
Dan has also in 2022/23 worked in videogame production, notably with Superbrothers A/V on “JETT: The Far Shore + Given Time”, where amongst other things, he provided efforts towards story, scriptwriting, audio design, video editing and general all-round ‘spare brain’ capacity.
Aside from proficiency in all the usual creative tools (The Adobe Creative Suite, Procreate, the usual stuff), Dan is also a typeface designer, crafting custom fonts for comic artists that organically imitate their own lettering.
